Do I have to pay customs for the package from China?

Any items, goods, or products you ship from China will be subject to customs duty (or import tax). However, shipments from some countries are exempted from paying customs duty because of their international trade agreements. China is not one of those countries.

Consider importing a cargo of umbrellas from China to the United States. The price of the shipment was $28,000. To figure out how much you’ll have to pay, look up the umbrella commodities code and multiply it by the 6.5 percent import tax rate for that code.

Tax will be charged on the cost of the products minus shipping, which is $28,000 in this example. $1,820 is 6.5 percent of $28,000. So, after summing up, you’ll pay $29,820 for the goods and customs charge combined.
