The container is hailed as one of the greatest inventions in history. The greatest success of the container lies in the standardization of its products and the establishment of a complete transportation system. At present, most of the international maritime transportation uses containers as the loading body, and experienced industry operators will know how to estimate the actual volume of cargo.

There are many types of containers used to transport goods. Here only introduces the most common international freight container sizes and types in maritime transport. And the method of estimating the packing size.

Container size

20 feet container: inner size 5.69 meters X 2.13 meters X 2.18 meters / can bear the gross weight of goods generally 17.5 tons / volume 24-26 cubic meters

40 feet container: inner size 11.8 meters X 2.13 meters X 2.18 meters / can bear the gross weight of goods generally 22 tons/volume 54 cubic meters

40 high cabinet: inner size 11.8 meters X 2.13 meters X 2.72 meters / can bear the gross weight of goods generally 22 tons/volume 68 cubic meters

45 feet container: inner size 13.58 meters X2.34 meters X2.71 meters / can bear the gross weight of goods generally 29 tons/volume 86 cubic meters

Many people will ask how to estimate the packing size accurately? In fact, the method is very simple:

Take a coil notebook as an example. If you know that the notebook’s specifications are A5 size, 250gsm White Card Cover, 70gsm offset paper * 60 sheets.

You only know this information, and you don’t have the physical object in your hand. You don’t even know the size and weight of a single product. How to calculate it?

1. Determine the single weight of the product

A5 size is about 21cm*14.8cm

gsm means grams per square meter

Single book weight

=0.21*0.148*70*60+0.21*0.148*250*2+15=about 160g

(Calculate the weight of the inner page and the cover according to the paper weight and number of sheets, and then estimate the weight of a coil)

2. Determine the quantity per box

For example, the gross weight of the outer box does not exceed 15kgs.

We can calculate according to the net weight of about 12kgs, 12000/160=75 (maybe many times customers like to pack by pack, then it is reasonable to pack 72 books per box)

3. Determine the size of the carton

In most cases, we will know the size of our product. In this example, we know the notebook’s length and width, but we don’t know the thickness, so we can only estimate it first, such as a coil notebook with 60 inner pages. , We use the thickness of about 6mm, considering that the diameter of the coil will be higher than the thickness of the book, then when we pack, we usually put two books and two books facing each other, so the thickness of our single book can be calculated as about 7mm.

If it is an inner box of 12 books, the inner box size is calculated as follows:

Product size: 21cm x 14.8cm x 0.7cm

Inner box size: +1 x +1 x *12+1

=: 22cm x 16cm x 9.5cm

After stacking the products, the size of the inner box is generally length, width and height plus 1cm each

Outer box size: (In this case, there will be 6 inner boxes in one outer box, here if it is calculated as 3 layers and 2 rows)

Inner box size: 22cm x 16cm x 9.5cm

Carton size: +2 x *2+2 x *3+3

=: 24cm x 34cm x 31.5cm

In other words, the outer box size is 34 x 24cm x 31.5cm

After stacking the inner box, the general outer box size is length and width plus 2cm, height plus 3cm

Gross weight: 160*72g+2kg inner box and outer box weight = about 13.5kgs

Remarks

1) This method is estimated after all, and there will definitely be a difference in size and weight compared to the trial installation, so it is only recommended to use it when the conditions do not allow trial installation.

2) For some products with irregular shapes, it is necessary to consider how the products are placed properly when calculating the inner box size. For example, two products may be inserted to save space. In this case, the unit size should be 2. The size of each product put together is calculated.

3) If you clearly know the size and weight of a single product, then skip the first item and look again.
